Becoming a swim official is the best way for a parent to be involved in their child's sport. There are many different officiating jobs at swim meets, so you should be able to find something that interests you. Check out the requirements to become an official and a clinic schedule on the PVS Officials Web Site. Or, contact your club's Officials Chair for more information.
